"We met twice and were able to come to consensus on the calendar that you see before you," Superintendent Miss Sulphurs said, describing committee compromises and the calendar's basic parameters.
Key elements include 185 teacher contract days and 171 student contact days, an earlier September start (Sept. 1) compared with the prior year, adjusted professional development days to avoid two-day school weeks, spring break timing to align with Easter and an option day for transition work tied to a planned replacement of the Skyward student information system. The committee recommended two shorter breaks (a February respite and a spring break week) to break up winter and provide trip flexibility.
Board members discussed the committee process and the value of including building-based staff in calendar development so that the final product has broad buy-in. The administration said a "pretty copy" will be produced for public posting and the calendar will be posted and sent to families; the board will vote on adoption at its December meeting.
