Emergency Services Director Bradley Kinlaw presented an eight‑year service and upgrade agreement with Motorola Solutions to the Onslow County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 3. Kinlaw said the county operates an Astro 25 radio system used by county departments, the city and the base and that the agreement will ensure software security patches, system modernization and the addition of a cloud‑based central management platform for realtime monitoring and diagnostics.
Kinlaw presented an annual cost structure beginning at approximately $377,000 in year one and rising to about $457,000 by the final year; the total contract value was presented at $3,333,317.80 plus taxes. He said annual appropriations will be required to cover the agreement. The board asked clarifying questions about whether the agreement covers the CAD and records‑management systems; the county attorney clarified the Motorola contract discussed covers the radio system and is separate from previous CAD/RMS issues.
The board moved, seconded and approved the Motorola agreement and authorized the county manager to execute the agreement and related documents. Staff noted that approval will require annual budget appropriations to meet the contract expense.
