Madera County appoints Matt Treiber as county administrative officer; board votes 5–0

The Madera County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Tuesday to appoint Matt Treiber as the county’s chief administrative officer, effective Oct. 7, 2025. Human Resources Director Shanika Dixon told the board Treiber emerged from a competitive recruitment and recommended a salary at range 40, step D ($243,757.44) with longevity that totals $268,133.18 annually.

Dixon said Treiber has more than 20 years of local‑government experience, most recently serving as Madera County’s chief of developmental services. After the board’s vote, Treiber took the oath of office and thanked the judges, board and county staff. “It’s an incredible honor that you’ve entrusted me with this,” Treiber said, adding he plans to continue working closely with county employees and community partners.

Public comment included longtime colleagues and former Supervisor Tom Wheeler, who recounted knowing Treiber since childhood and urged support for the appointment. Multiple supervisors praised Treiber’s responsiveness and institutional knowledge; Supervisor Rogers and others said Treiber has a long record of local service.

The board made the appointment by roll call vote, recorded as 5–0 in favor. Following the vote Treiber addressed the board, noted his family ties to Eastern Madera County and said he looked forward to serving residents and county staff.

The appointment fills the vacancy created by the recent retirement of the prior CAO; Dixon said the recruitment included a strong candidate pool and a multi‑step evaluation. The county will finalize administrative onboarding and continue work on the board’s agenda under Treiber’s leadership.
