Committee approves resolution to form Prince George's County Civil Rights Monument Commission

Sponsor Council member Hawkins moved the favorable recommendation and Council member Fisher seconded. Mister Tuck provided a brief staff report describing the resolution's purpose: "to start a commission to create and implement a plan to establish a civil rights monument in Prince George's County to honor the historical contributions of county residents to the advancement of civil rights here in Prince George's County," he said.
Under the resolution, if established, the commission would be tasked with conducting a feasibility study, preparing a comprehensive plan and leading community engagement efforts to guide development of the monument. The clerk conducted a roll call and the motion carried 10-0.
By recommending the resolution, the committee moves the proposal forward in the legislative process; the resolution specifies next steps the commission would take if it is formally established.
