Prince George's County Council confirms Billy Okoye to Planning Board

Billy Okoye was confirmed to the Prince George's County Planning Board on Nov. 17, 2025, in a unanimous 10-0 vote after the county executive introduced him and residents and professional colleagues spoke in favor.
The nomination, presented by County Executive Ayesha Braveway, highlighted Okoye's career in real estate, community development and renewable energy and requested the council's affirmative vote. In remarks to the council, Okoye said he would prioritize transit-oriented development, neighborhood revitalization and balanced growth, and pledged to complete required planning training and to “make every decision in the best long term interest of Prince George's County.”
Two members of Okoye's personal and professional network addressed the council during the public hearing. Kathy Eastman described long-standing personal ties to Okoye's family and vouched for his character; attorney Chris Agocha said he had served as Okoye's counsel and recommended him based on professional experience and ethical practice.
Council members who spoke during the roll call described familiarity with Okoye's community work and practical experience. Chair Burrows and multiple council members thanked the family for attending; the council allowed brief applause for the confirmation despite routine restrictions. The motion to report the nomination favorably and confirm Okoye carried 10-0.
The planning board seat Okoye will fill carries a term expiring June 15, 2027. The council did not identify any outstanding objections during the public hearing and moved the confirmation forward as presented.
