The Board of County Commissioners authorized the Parks and Recreation Department to purchase and install new playground equipment for Woodland Way Neighborhood Park at a total cost of $149,812.77.
Brandy Kenner, Director of Purchasing, explained the county intends to use another jurisdiction’s contract (Omni Partners awarded by the City of Charlotte) to leverage economies of scale. The equipment is from GameTime through its authorized dealer Cunningham Recreation (Charlotte), and the purchase was justified by the current playground reaching the end of its useful life.
Staff said the purchase and installation will be funded from the Parks and Recreation capital improvement budget and outlined the new features: age‑appropriate modular structures, swings, and climbing/spinning pieces to ensure safe recreational space. Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the authorization by voice vote.
The county will proceed with contracting through the cooperative purchasing vehicle and schedule installation under the department’s capital plan.
