Fourth-grade student ambassadors from Willowbrook presented a robotics innovation project to the Oak Ridge Board of Education ahead of a December FIRST LEGO Challenge panel.
"My name is Serenity Yarber, and this is Lisonbee Lewis, Veil Nykirk, and Willie Rodriguez," Serenity Yarber said, introducing the team and describing visits to the McClung Museum and interviews with archaeologists that shaped the project. The students explained the year’s challenge—identify a problem faced by archaeologists and propose a solution—and showed a dramatized scenario that walked judges through their proposed submersible and conservation approach.
Teacher leaders for the group were identified as Miss Harris and Miss Chenow, and students named on the roster included Bennett Mericle, Nolan Cieskin, Carolyn Anderson, Alex Higginbotham, Antalya Williams and Sharon and Jackson Gorman. Board members asked where the regional competition would be held; the students said it will be at Jefferson Middle School.
The board chair thanked the students for presenting and moved the meeting to business items.
