Cunningham Township board adopts 2025 tax levy, approves temporary office lease

The Cunningham Township board on Monday adopted Ordinance T2025-10-003 levying taxes for 2025, collectible in 2026, and approved a short-term office lease to relocate staff away from a space with elevated radon.
Supervisor Chenoweth explained the annual process: "Every year, we have to levy taxes ... and every year, if the amount that we're levying is over a certain amount, we have to go through something called a truth in taxation process," she said, adding the township is constrained by tax-cap rules that generally limit increases to the consumer price index or 5 percent — whichever is smaller.
Trustee Charice asked whether the levy would be subject to a referendum; Chenoweth said a referendum is not planned and that the levy request is intended to preserve taxing capacity should assessed values rise. Multiple trustees voted to adopt the ordinance by roll call.
Separately, the board approved a lease to move some staff from a radon-affected office into space at Lincoln Square. Chenoweth told the board the new satellite office will cost about $2,000 less per month and is roughly the same square footage; the lease overlaps the current space for roughly a month and a half to allow time for moving supplies. The board adopted the lease by roll call.
