Tiverton committee approves Disney field trip, accepts donations and 25 homeschool requests

Principal Craven briefed the committee on a December student trip for varsity boys and girls basketball teams to Florida (dates discussed in the presentation included Dec. 25–30); organizers said the trip would be parent‑funded or supported through fundraising and would not rely on school funds. The committee voted to approve the request.
The committee accepted a $1,000 donation from the Tiverton Lions Club to support career and technical education (CTE) programs. Principal Craven and Ms. Cusimano described the Lions Club’s local activities, including scholarships and community events.
In a larger donation, the Community College of Rhode Island offered 400 desks to Tiverton High School. Principal Craven said crews and custodial staff moved the desks into classrooms and estimated the donation’s catalog value at about $116,000. The committee unanimously accepted the desks and recognized custodians Mike Martin, Drew Brown and Mike Chaney for their effort.
Staff presented 25 homeschool requests for the 2024–25 school year; the committee approved all 25. Staff reported a running total of 63 approved homeschool students for the year; a committee member noted she had recorded 64 and asked staff to double‑check the running total in future memos.
Outcome: motions to approve the field trip, accept the Lions Club donation and accept the CCRI desks were all approved; 25 homeschool requests were approved unanimously.
