Kathy Liston and other speakers supported a term comparable to another county museum (a 30‑year lease with automatic renewal and county-maintained grounds) and requested county coverage of liability insurance and some building expenses.
Staff and the facilities committee said modifications requested by the museum had been incorporated into a draft lease, but museum representatives said remaining clauses need resolution. The board voted to authorize the facilities committee and County Administrator Dan Witt to negotiate and finalize the outstanding issues (linkage/term and county liability) and then proceed with signing the lease so the museum need not return for a separate board meeting.
Next steps: the facilities committee and museum representatives will continue negotiations, with the board-approved path allowing the committee chair and administrator to finalize details and execute the agreement when both sides are satisfied.
