Sloan manager outlines security changes after Sept. 16 confrontations

Dane Zuccaro, managing partner of Sloan, told the San Francisco Entertainment Commission that confrontations and civil disobedience outside the venue on Sept. 16 prompted a series of operational changes aimed at preventing a recurrence. "We have grown our nightly security staff by 5 to be between 16 and 19," Zuccaro said, and described temporary changes including pausing a happy-hour event, raising bottle-service minimums, lowering free-entry allowances and hiring three bottle-service assistants.
Zuccaro said Sloan has added an in-house EMT rehydration area and provided tips training for staff, and that he has been in frequent contact with SFPD permit officer Simon Chan and ALU and Entertainment Commission inspectors to coordinate follow-up. He also said the venue is planning to extend closing time to 3 a.m. to create a "cooling off" period to stagger departures.
The statement came during public comment. Commissioners asked questions about outreach and enforcement coordination; no formal action followed the comment period. Zuccaro said the changes reflect an effort to "set the standard in San Francisco nightlife operations" and that Sloan will supply event updates to SFPD and commission staff for special events.
The commission did not take further action during the meeting on Sloan-specific permits or sanctions; it advanced routine consent calendar items later in the agenda.
