HAMPTON BAYS — The Hampton Bays Union Free School District held a pre-K lottery during its regular business meeting and recognized multiple students of the month from its elementary, middle and high schools.
Presenters said the district has enough pre-K spots for all applicants who registered and used the lottery order to determine AM versus PM placement. Staff called lottery numbers and announced winners; presenters said families will be contacted with follow-up information.
At the meeting the board also honored April students of the month. Elementary honoree Henry Samiento Pucci was described by a presenter as a "smart, respectful, all-around wonderful student" with a strong work ethic and enthusiasm for math and STEAM. Middle-school student Diana Morales Mendez was praised for improving academically and growing in confidence; staff noted use of a live translation app so Spanish-speaking family members could follow remarks. High-school student Samantha (surname in transcript) was recognized by her advisor for leadership in the weight-room safety program and readiness for college-and-career pathways.
Board members took a brief five-minute recess for photos before resuming business. Staff said they will be in touch with selected pre-K families with more information about the program.
