Laramie Westside Historic District added to National Register, county preservation board announces

The Albany County Historic Preservation Board announced the successful August 5 National Register nomination for the Laramie Westside Historic District; a plaque is in final proofing and an unveiling will be scheduled with city coordination.
Karen Barr, chair of the Historic Preservation Board for Albany County, told the Board of County Commissioners that the Laramie Westside Historic District has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places after a nomination that was finalized Aug. 5.
"Laramie Westside Historic District represents an important part of Wyoming's history and is an excellent addition to the NRHP," Barr read from the notifying letter and told commissioners the nomination process went "smooth sailing" with no amendments. She praised the contractor who prepared the nomination and said the board is finalizing wording for a commemorative plaque.
Barr said the plaque is in final proofing and that once the production timeline is known the board will set an unveiling date and invite commissioners. She said the location and size of the plaque have not yet been determined and that the county will likely need to coordinate with the City of Laramie on placement.
The listing recognizes the Westside's historical significance and will be accompanied by local marking; the Historic Preservation Board said it will share the unveiling timeline with county officials when available.
The item was presented as part of the regular agenda and no formal county action was required at the meeting.
