Cerritos honors local businesses, students and a 100-year resident

At the start of its Sept. 25 meeting, the Cerritos City Council presented ceremonial recognitions and community spotlights.
Mayor and council members recognized Albano's Plumbing Inc. (owner Ben Albano) as the business spotlight for 47 years of local service; Albano thanked the city and noted family ties to local schools. The council also honored resident Shirley Garcia on her 100th birthday with a proclamation and invited family for a group photo.
In observance of National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15–Oct. 15), the council presented proclamations to student groups from Cerritos College: the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPHA) and the Immigrant Student Alliance (ISA). Student leaders described campus programming, outreach and leadership activities.
These ceremonial items preceded the meeting's business agenda and underscored civic engagement and community partnerships.
