At their July 2 meeting, the La Porte County Board of Commissioners recorded the following formal actions and outcomes:
• Agenda amendment: Motion to remove items 10a and 10b and add discussion of claims being posted online — moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
• Minutes: Motion to approve the June minutes — approved by voice vote.
• Payroll and claims: Auditor read payroll totaling $1,519,177.71 and operating expense claims totaling $5,138,393.08; motions to accept payroll and operating claims were moved, seconded and approved by voice votes.
• Travel requests: Approved travel for probation staff to the American Probation and Parole Association summer training in New York (Aug. 24–27) with expenses paid by probation user fees; approved food purchases for two probation retreats funded by probation user fees; approved two health-department employees to attend the Heart Safe summit in Phoenix (Dec. 2–6).
• Paid sick days: Motion to grant two paid sick days to a retiring clerk’s-office employee (22 years’ service) was debated, an attempt to table failed, and the motion to grant two paid sick days passed (one commissioner recorded a nay vote citing insufficient information).
• Proclamation: Approved a proclamation recognizing Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week (July 20–26).
• Ordinance: Ordinance No. 25-3 (regulating commercial use of public records) was read by title only as a first reading; no adoption vote was taken.
• Appointment: Motion approved to appoint Brooke Buying as interim animal-shelter director effective July 12.
