The Van Buren County Board of Supervisors reviewed and accepted the Vernon Township 2025 annual report and approved routine financial actions connected with township and county funds.
Speaker 4 presented the township report — three sheets listing a summary, receipts and disbursements. He reported receipts of $991.10 for township-owned cemeteries, $1,287.28 for non-owned cemeteries and $8,516.33 for fire department funding, with a total of $11,387.48 in receipts. Speaker 4 also said a $10,000 certificate of deposit was held for Watkins Cemetery and that $210 in interest had been moved into a checking account to cover maintenance expenses.
Speaker 4 asked permission to issue a refund of $11.84 that resulted from fence-viewing collections and naming Eugene and Candy Winky as the recipients; Speaker 1 moved, Speaker 2 seconded and the board approved the check.
The board also authorized the chairman to sign the annual equitable sharing agreement and certification form for the county sheriff's office; Speaker 4 described that department funds from a settlement had nearly been spent and that 67¢ remained in the account to be closed.
Separately, the board acknowledged an annual transfer of $5,000 to the county conservation land acquisition fund and noted the first-quarter roads payment of $254,644. No additional appropriation actions were taken beyond approvals to issue routine checks and make the acknowledged transfers.
The board signed the necessary checks and forms and returned to regular business before adjourning.
