During the Sept. 24 meeting, Historic District Commission staff reported that Oklahoma Avenue has partially reopened and crews are completing a crosswalk between the post office and Baldwin Street; the area will be repaved after the crosswalk work to correct a dip between pavers and asphalt.
Staff also said the town’s historic-sign grant (Maryland 250 program) will be revisited and that misspelled historic signs will be corrected in coordination with the curator and Shannon Baum (Speaker 6, staff member). Commissioners raised concerns about the percentage of window coverage allowed for painted window signs, noting some storefronts appear permanently covered. Members agreed to discuss time limits for temporary window treatments used for special events and to develop a recommended palette of historic paint colors to guide future storefront choices.
Commissioners also noted that Springfield Hospital Center historical tours are taking place and are largely booked; additional tour slots will be offered through an Oct. 11 5K event.
