The Zion City Council on July 16 voted unanimously to approve an AIA agreement with FGM Architects for architectural design services on the city's Fire Station 2 construction project.
City staff said the council previously approved construction-management services and that selecting FGM followed a request for qualifications. "We selected FGM architects and then negotiated a fee with them, which we were able to negotiate down about $40,000 from what was originally presented," a city representative said. The presenter told council the lead architect had been unavailable that week and that staff and the city attorney expect only minor, non-substantive contract revisions.
The motion to approve was made by Commissioner McDowell and seconded by Commissioner Holmes; the roll-call vote was unanimous. Staff said this action constitutes the next step in the Fire Station 2 project and does not itself authorize construction spending beyond the architect contract.
Next steps: Staff and the architect will finalize contract edits and proceed with design work; the council will consider construction contracts and budget actions in future meetings.
