1812 festival organizers seek county land use; commissioners appoint Adam Hartzler to library board

Organizers of the 1812 (Mississinewa) festival briefed Grant County commissioners about their vision for county-owned acreage near Northway Road, emphasizing traffic improvements, parking, and the goal of establishing year-round attractions.
A representative described plans to create a one-way entrance and exit, use tillable land for overflow parking, and develop a small interpretive center focused on the War of 1812 and the Battle of Mississinewa. "We want to have a presence in the community throughout the year," the representative said, adding that the group is preparing site layout and clearing land and is mindful of emergency access and traffic-flow needs.
Commissioners said no formal action would be taken at this meeting; staff noted legal background work and property studies would be needed before any land use decision. Public questions included vendor-waste/materials management and how transportation and shuttle services could be organized.
Separately, the board recognized outgoing Commissioners Wright and Bardsley for their service and approved the appointment of Adam Hartzler to the Fairmount Public Library Board to replace Mark Andrew West, effective Jan. 1, 2025 through Dec. 31, 2028. The board thanked both outgoing commissioners and presented a plaque to Commissioner Bardsley.
