Grant County accepts bridge-inspection contract, hears plans for county equipment purchases

The highway superintendent reported that the state reviewed the proposed countywide bridge-inspection contract and that the total contract price for 2025–2029 is $519,990.58. "We'll pay all of it, then we'll be reimbursed 80% of that back from the federal government," the superintendent said. A motion to accept the contract price was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote.
The superintendent also presented quotes for equipment he recommended purchasing before year end: a 2021 Gradall excavator for $240,000; a 9-ton roller for $98,553.50; and a 3,500-gallon tank quoted at $417,769 — a combined total of $764,322.50. He said the county would seek additional quotes for a skid steer and mini excavator and asked for authorization to proceed as funds permit. The superintendent characterized those equipment purchases as drawn from ARPA allocations and county budgets; he estimated approximately $235,677.50 would remain in that allotment after the three purchases.
Commissioners asked whether prior board action had already set the process in motion and confirmed they needed to accept the stated price to finalize procurement. The board approved acceptance of the bridge inspection contract by voice vote; discussion of the equipment purchases was presented for authorization and follow-up rather than concluded as a formal procurement motion.
