Commission approves $225,000 materials purchase for North Industrial Park substation

The Coffeyville City Commission on Oct. 22 approved Resolution R-24-83 to authorize purchase of materials for the North Industrial Park substation distribution line, a project the electric utility says will support future development.

Chris Weiner, executive director of electric services, told commissioners the purchase on the table was "about $225,000" and that the City still expects to buy additional materials that would bring the total remaining materials to just under $200,000. Weiner said the remaining materials will arrive over the next month or two and the plan is to begin construction around January. "We're getting everything lined up just to be able to make this all happen beginning of the year," he said.

Commissioner Maples moved to approve Resolution R-24-83; Commissioner Banister seconded. The motion passed with recorded aye votes from Commissioner Maples, Commissioner Edwards, Mayor Hendricks, Commissioner Banister, Vice Mayor Faulkner and Commissioner Van Oster.

The resolution authorizes material procurement only; Weiner and staff described this as a continuation of previously approved project steps, noting additional purchases are anticipated as the project progresses. The item was presented under new business and carried on a unanimous vote.

The commission did not identify a construction contract award during the meeting and did not set an installation date beyond the general January timeline; staff indicated further scheduling and delivery details will be provided as materials arrive and construction is scheduled.

What happens next: staff will receive the authority to place the material orders authorized by R-24-83 and will return with additional scheduling and cost details as procurement and construction plans are finalized.
