The Coweta County Board of Zoning Appeals on Sept. 25 recommended approval of variance 25-18, a request by Daniel Altman to reduce the rear building setback for his property at 4 Beverly Drive in Newnan (District 3). The board’s recommendation is advisory; the Board of Commissioners will take final action on Oct. 21, 2025.
Zoning manager Lisa Eschman presented the petition and told the board the house predates current zoning and the location of the existing septic system limits the area available for an addition. Eschman said a neighboring property owner to the north submitted a letter of support and recommended conditions the board could attach if it endorsed the variance: that the home addition not be closer than 10 feet from the rear property line along the northern boundary, and that the applicant obtain all required building permits and inspections from the Community Development Department.
No members of the public signed up to speak for or against the request. After closing the public hearing, Board member 4 moved to grant the request with the two staff conditions; the motion was seconded and the board voted by voice to recommend approval.
The board emphasized that its action is a recommendation; the Board of Commissioners will consider the petition and issue the final decision at its Oct. 21 hearing in this room.
