The Uxbridge Planning Board voted to recommend favorable action on proposed amendments to the Floodplain Overlay District bylaw intended to keep the town in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
Planner Dylan summarized the changes and said the town worked with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation to bring the bylaw into alignment with updated FEMA regulations. "Uxbridge is a part of the NFIP," Dylan said, and the update is necessary so residents throughout town remain eligible for federally backed flood insurance.
The draft reduces some exceptions for building in mapped floodplain areas and confirms that special permits will be required for new construction in certain locations. Board members discussed the mechanics of special permits and confirmed that the draft contains fewer exceptions than the previous bylaw.
After closing the public hearing, the Planning Board moved and approved a recommendation for favorable action by roll call (recorded ayes included Faye, Eli, John and Lauren). The recommendation will be forwarded as the Planning Board's advisory position for the warrant article process.
