Committee advances two Judicial Standards Commission nominees after in‑committee testimony

The Senate Judiciary Committee considered two nominations to the Judicial Standards Commission and advanced both to the full Senate.
Sen. Barry Usher introduced SR110, the speaker’s nomination of Judge Dan Wilson (11th Judicial District). Bruce Spencer, representing the State Bar of Montana and the Montana Judges’ Association, endorsed Wilson and described him as fair with strong legal reasoning. Judge Wilson addressed the committee, citing nearly 20 years as a lawyer and more than a decade on the bench, and said he would focus on preserving judicial integrity and quality.
SR110 was moved in executive action and passed out of committee unanimously.
Sen. Usher then presented SR109 to continue Judge Ashley Harada in a full term beginning 06/30/2029. Supporters, including Bruce Spencer, reiterated endorsements made at an earlier hearing and praised Harada’s bench performance and willingness to take on additional work. Judge Harada spoke briefly and the committee moved SR109 out of committee by voice vote.
Both nominations will proceed to the Senate floor.
