Residents urge board to restore committee reporting, raise special‑education concerns

A resident identified as Rose told the board the meeting's brevity was troubling for a district that serves about 3,500 students and said eliminating committee updates undercuts transparency and accountability. "Where is the board's commitment to transparency? Where is the accountability to the residents you were elected to serve?" she asked, pointing to recent committee actions and decisions that residents and committee chairs said were not reported.
Jen Marchese, who identified herself as from Bridal, told the board she had spoken with families concerned about special‑education services, describing an information gap between supervisors and parents and reporting staff shortages that leave "boots on the ground" employees overextended and underpaid. "They feel that there's a little bit of an information gap between supervisors and what's going on with their kids in school," Marchese said.
Board members discussed options to provide focused committee highlights when substantive reporting is available and to avoid repetition of material already in the agenda packet. Several members expressed interest in refining the committee‑reporting approach in a governance retreat and said the superintendent remains available for parent conversations and coffees.
The public comments and board responses established a near‑term follow‑up: governance and policy work to refine how committees report to the public and additional outreach opportunities.
