Board members used the meeting to recognize transitions on the governing board. Superintendent Gonzales welcomed newly appointed board member Sue Ann Edmiston and noted Edmiston had been appointed by the superintendent (as stated in the meeting record). Dr. Gonzales praised Dr. Alicia Vink for her service and wished her well as she and her family move to Washington state.
Dr. Vink spoke briefly, thanking families, staff and the community for the opportunity to serve. She urged the board to continue asking hard questions and advocating for immigrant students, neighborhood schools and excellent programming for all students.
Several public commenters and board members also expressed appreciation for Vink's work and welcomed Edmiston to the board. The board will continue its business with the newly constituted membership and recorded the transitions in the meeting minutes.
