Commissioners authorize White's Construction to repair fairgrounds wall, condition insurance follow-up

The Weston County Board of Commissioners authorized the chairman to proceed with White's Construction to repair an exterior wall at the county fairgrounds after discussing delays with the insurer, Progressive.

Speaker 1 told the board they had reached out repeatedly to Progressive and that the damaged wall near the women’s bathroom allowed cold air into the building; an insurance adjuster and local contact (Nathan Automa) were named during the discussion. Speaker 8 recommended moving forward immediately to protect the building before freezing weather.

White's Construction provided a written bid of $18,833.50. Speaker 9 moved to authorize the chairman to contract White's Construction to begin work; the motion included direction that, if Progressive ultimately did not reimburse the county, Buildings & Grounds funds would cover the cost. Commissioners approved the motion by voice vote.

Officials asked staff to document the damage with photographs and to continue following up with Progressive’s adjuster and the county insurance representative to seek reimbursement. The board also discussed making multiple bids but authorized White's to proceed because of the weather risk.
