Board considers first reading of AP African American Studies course proposed by HSD teacher

The Curriculum and Course Advisory Committee (CCAC) reviewed the proposal and recommended it move forward. Board members asked whether teachers would have adequate training and resources; the presenter said she attended an AP Summer Institute and that CCAC feedback and an active educator network (Google Classroom) would support implementation. Staff confirmed Century High School intends to include the course on next year’s course selection sheet; the presenter suggested the course initially be open to grades 10–12 given the material’s rigor.
