Board approves MOU with Community Counseling Center to expand in-school therapy

The Douglas County School District board voted unanimously to approve a memorandum of understanding with Community Counseling Center (CCC) to provide in-school therapy across district schools.
Jackie, representing CCC, told trustees the program requires parental consent before any treatment, pulls students for roughly 50 minutes in private spaces, and coordinates scheduling with school counselors to avoid core instruction periods. CCC therapists will be CCC employees; the agency said it accepts Medicaid and currently has grant funding that supports some services.
Trustees asked whether the MOU covers all schools; presenters confirmed it is intended for districtwide implementation and that referrals will come through school counselors. Trustees also clarified that CCC will work in tandem with HEART/crisis-response resources for urgent needs and that non-school hours and community access will be governed by the MOU and any joint-use agreements.
Public commenters supported the agreement. Rob Lehman read the MOU passage about parental contact and consent, urging trustees to review the packet when questions arise. Trustee Knighting moved to approve the MOU; a second carried the motion and the board recorded a unanimous vote.
Next steps: district staff will execute the MOU and coordinate a rollout with school counselors and principals, including parent-notification procedures and documentation of consent.
