Staff said the change is timed to coordinate with the Town Green’s grand opening planned for Nov. 14.
Courtney (city planning staff) told the council the entertainment district is limited to businesses inside the boundary that hold the appropriate on-site license and named Local 7, Fords, Las Colinas and Village Burger as examples of qualifying businesses. Retail outlets, gas stations or stores that sell packaged beer or wine for off-site consumption are not eligible, she said. Staff recommended updated signage and a sticker/poster program for participating businesses.
Mayor (unnamed in the transcript) emphasized the new park’s safety and amenities, noting planned smart lighting and cameras, and council members spoke briefly in support. With no public commenters during the allotted 10-minute pro or con hearing windows, the councilmember who moved approval was seconded and the mayor announced the motion carried.
The ordinance takes effect after the formal adoption process is complete and staff said they will update communications and distributing promotional materials to participating businesses ahead of the Town Green opening. The council did not add new conditions beyond those described in the staff presentation.
