Uxbridge updates fire alarms, playground and kitchen upgrades ahead of school opening

He also said lighting fixtures for a high‑school lighting project (locker‑room/field area) have been ordered and the district is following up with National Grid about supplemental lighting near the front entrance.
Marty and colleagues described a Quiet Corner playground renovation at Whiting by vendor UltiPlay, with a mid‑October installation window and a two‑to‑three‑week timeline depending on weather. The redesign includes natural foliage and sound‑buffer plantings, varied seating, sensory‑friendly elements and ADA‑compliant surfacing to create a quieter outdoor space for students.
On food‑service infrastructure, Marty said Taft’s dishwasher installation required plumbing work (a new grease interceptor) and that both Taft walk‑in cooler/freezer units (installed in the 1980s) will receive new compressors and condensers relocated to the roof for improved maintenance and performance; those costs will be covered from operating budgets rather than capital funds. The district also purchased reusable stainless‑steel lunch trays that are durable and sanitary, enabled by the dishwasher repairs.
Marty said other routine maintenance and irrigation repairs are underway. No new capital appropriations were approved at the meeting; updates were informational and implementation will proceed under existing budgets or departmental funds.
