The Uxbridge School Committee on Aug. 19 approved two operational rate changes intended to improve staffing coverage and recover contractor costs.
Superintendent David reported the cafeteria substitute rate historically was $14.25 and recommended raising it to $16 per hour to remain competitive and help fill vacancies. A motion to support the request was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Director of Facilities Marty Shaw said the district’s custodial contractor (ACP/Pritchard) raised its overtime and weekend event rate to about $49.61 per hour. To ensure cost recovery, Marty asked the committee to set the district’s event charging rate at $50 per hour; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Neither vote recorded a roll‑call tally; both were accepted by voice with committee members responding “Aye.” The committee asked administrators to ensure rate changes are reflected in event contracts and public fee schedules.
Both adjustments are operational decisions intended to reduce staffing shortfalls and cover vendor cost increases. The committee did not attach a separate appropriation to either item during the meeting.
