Glacier County commissioners voted Aug. 26 to approve a one‑year lease with the Department of Labor Job Service for office space in the county annex.
Michael Kitson, recorded in the meeting as director of human resources, described the space in the southwest corner of the annex as roughly 528 square feet and said the lease term would run from Sept. 1, 2025, to Aug. 31, 2026. Kitson told the board the monthly rent is $710.16, reflecting an annual payment of $8,521.92, consistent with the county’s rental rate of $16.14 per square foot. "We were grossly undercharging...we're not anymore," Kitson said, noting a prior county rental study and the need to cover utilities, janitorial services and insurance costs.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about the one‑year term and staffing; Kitson said Job Service prefers one‑year renewals and the county offers a small discount for multiyear agreements. With no public comment, a commissioner moved, a second was recorded and the board approved the lease by voice vote. Commissioners and staff said they expect to return with summary rent totals at a future meeting.
The lease is effective Sept. 1, 2025; staff will complete signature and administrative steps following the vote.
