Walton County Board honors students, volunteers and staff at April meeting

The Walton County Board of Education opened its April meeting with a series of recognitions for students, parent volunteers and staff from across the district.
Superintendent Underwood introduced the presentations and called on school representatives to honor recent achievements. David Todd highlighted the Youth Middle School Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl team, noting it finished second in the state and naming media specialist Miss Privet and eighth-grade teacher Mister Morgan as leaders. “Congratulations to our Reading Bowl team for achieving second place in the state,” Todd said as students received certificates and posed for photos.
Walnut Grove High School’s Technology Student Association and several individual students were also recognized for state-level results. Lindsey Allen described a record-setting year that included a state champion and multiple runners-up in events ranging from CO2 dragster competition to structural design; he named Lance Paris, Jason Cole, Bryson Edwards and members of a manufacturing prototype team for the achievement.
The board also presented a series of local service honors called the 1 Walton Impact Awards to community partners, PTO leaders and volunteers. Presenters singled out Greg and Renee Thompson of John’s Supermarket for years of support, and Sherry Andre and Ansley Holder for ongoing PTO service. David Todd and other school leaders praised Miss Christy Klotfelter and Karen Medlock for their sustained contributions to school programs and parent–staff engagement.
An employee leadership recognition honored Dr. Tammy Delk, principal of Bay Creek Elementary, with board members noting her leadership and that she is retiring this year. Miss Broad read nominations highlighting Delk’s long service and steady leadership.
Board members thanked students, families and volunteers and directed parents to the district website for meeting photos and recognition albums. The recognitions concluded with a brief recess before the meeting moved into policy readings and business items.
