Council approves sign rules update, land-use and rezoning changes and releases paid liens

The Greenacres City Council on Aug. 4 approved three ordinances and a resolution affecting signage, land use and property liens.
Council adopted Ordinance 2025-10 on second reading to update the city’s sign regulations, including a final decision that the maximum width for a freestanding sign will be 20 feet. City planner Mr. Gallagher told the council the change was the only substantive revision since first reading; no members of the public spoke on the matter. “Staff does recommend approval,” Gallagher said, and the council voted to approve the ordinance.
Council also approved an annexation-related future land use map amendment (Ordinance 2025-12) and the companion rezoning (Ordinance 2025-13) for 16 parcels totaling approximately 9.754 acres. The amendments change those parcels from Palm Beach County’s LR-3 designation (3 units per acre) to the city’s Residential Low Density designation (RSLD, up to 5 units per acre). Miss Moore and Mr. Gallagher explained that the rezoning follows the annexation and staff recommended approval; no members of the public spoke in opposition and both measures passed on second reading.
In an added agenda item, City Manager McHugh presented Resolution 2025-33 to release eight municipal liens and one solid-waste account that had been paid in full. McHugh said the liens total $1,932.31 and that the resolution was being brought forward because a property transfer was pending; the council unanimously approved the release.
All votes on the above items were recorded as passed by the council at the meeting; motions and seconds were made from the dais and each item passed with no public testimony against it.
The council also approved a routine consent agenda earlier in the meeting and introduced Aldo Cardenas as a newly appointed member of the Planning and Zoning Board.
The most recent council action on these ordinances will take effect according to the dates stated in the respective ordinances and zoning changes will be reflected when the city transmits the updates to state agencies.
