Houston County approves MOU with Montezuma to accept landfill leachate as backup at 7.7¢/gallon

The Houston County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding with the City of Montezuma that will allow leachate transported from the county landfill to be received at two Montezuma wastewater treatment facilities — the Spring Creek Water Reclamation Facility and the Drayton Road Industrial Pretreatment Facility — as a secondary disposal option. The disposal rate in the agreement was stated as 7.7¢ per gallon.
Commissioner Gotwalls moved the MOU and Commissioner Robinson seconded. During discussion the chair noted Montezuma will serve as a backup option; the city of Warner Robins remains the county’s primary disposal partner and has a long-term relationship with the county for leachate handling.
The board voted to approve the MOU unanimously. The agreement provides the landfill with a contingency disposal site if issues arise at the primary facility.
