Council approves bond resolutions, sets public hearing on tax-levy override

Poughkeepsie City Common Council voted Oct. 7 to approve a package of consent resolutions authorizing serial bonds for several capital projects and to schedule a public hearing on a proposed local law to override the state tax levy limit.

At the start of the meeting the council moved to accept the Sept. 16 meeting minutes and then approved a motion to defer five notices of claim to the corporation counsel for review. The council then took up its consent agenda and passed four bond resolutions by voice vote: authorization of serial bonds for City Hall parking deck renovations (R-25-60), a Fall Kill Blue Way waterfront design study (R-25-69), a joint water plant capacity study (R-25-70), and Sprat Park pool house improvements (R-25-71).

Separately, the council moved R-25-72 — described by the chair as a resolution to introduce a local law to override the tax levy limit — from the consent calendar to the action agenda and voted to set a public hearing for Monday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. Council members agreed on the date and time during the meeting.

All votes taken at the meeting were recorded by voice as "Aye" and the chair declared the motions passed. Detailed roll-call tallies were not provided on the record for those specific motions.

The council also recorded a motion to defer several claims (filed by named claimants) to corporation counsel; that motion passed by voice vote. The minutes and the bond and action agenda resolutions were integrated into the official record and will appear in the council’s published minutes.
