Superintendent highlights programs, enrollment and district achievements at annual meeting

Superintendent Damon presented an overview of the School District of Milton's demographics, strategic plan priorities and highlights from the past year at the district's annual meeting June 30.
Damon said the district covers roughly 120 square miles, includes parts of Rock and Jefferson counties, and enrolls about 3,400 students in pre-K–12 programs. He cited a 2024 equalized tax base just over $3 billion and described five strategic pillars that will guide updated goals: teaching and learning; relationships, climate and culture; high-quality staff; community engagement; and operations and facilities.
Damon reviewed programmatic and extracurricular highlights: expansion of a therapy dog program (Roo) at Milton High School and the district office, the district's largest 4K class since the program began, a flight-simulator at Milton Middle School promoting aviation career pathways, the Matilda high-school musical, robotics and FBLA national competition results (student Emma Steinke advanced to FBLA nationals finals and placed in the top 15), and art displays at a regional youth art exhibit. He also noted completion of work at Schlem Stadium and accessibility improvements funded through community support.
Damon closed by saying the district will update its goals and focus areas across the five pillars over the upcoming months and invited questions before turning the meeting to Ross for the financial report.
