New CTE principal outlines program growth as board recognizes teachers of the year

"By the numbers... this current school year, we have 254 students of which 122 are Dinwiddie High School students," Lathrop said, and he highlighted program participation, industry certifications and work-based learning metrics (787 experiences, 306 guest speakers and multiple service-learning projects). He noted that criminal justice programming closed midyear because of staffing but that students preserved credits and continued dual-enrollment work.
Lathrop told the board the center had written a Go Virginia grant in conjunction with the Cameron Foundation for $625,000 to add certification opportunities and cited a projected 419% return on investment over five years; he said the formal presentation for that grant would occur March 11.
He also outlined expanding dual-enrollment arrangements with Brightpoint (nurse aide dual enrollment with up to six college credits, potential welding and engineering dual-enrollment) and described upcoming student events, including a reverse career fair March 7 and SkillsUSA state competition April 5.
Separately, the board recognized seven school-level Teachers of the Year and named Ashley Hall as the division-level Teacher of the Year, with staff and board members offering brief biographical remarks and inviting honorees for photographs.
