Board approves fencing, emergency boiler, personnel actions and policy services agreement

At its meeting the Dinwiddie County School Board approved multiple operational and procurement items on the consent/regular calendar.

The board voted to approve an elementary-playground fencing project that staff said will enclose playground areas at four schools, use fusion-bonded black vinyl fencing with windscreen graphics where appropriate and cost about $91,000 in total for the listed schools. Facilities staff described gate locations and access for events and emergency vehicles during a technical Q&A.

The board approved an emergency procurement to replace a totaled boiler at Dinwiddie Middle School. Staff said the low-bid, emergency contract award was $517,000 and that the district will pursue an insurance claim to offset costs; the work has been procured and installation will proceed.

The board accepted the personnel list as presented, approved minutes from January meetings, approved the expenditure reports and approved two administrative recommendations to expel named student case numbers (motions carried; both expulsions were recorded with one abstention each in the verbal record).

The board also renewed the Virginia School Boards Association policy services agreement for 2025–26 (annual service amount in the presentation: $2,500) to continue receiving model policies and policy support.
