The Uxbridge Department of Public Works demonstrated a newly launched water-customer portal at the Select Board meeting on Aug. 11, describing features intended to help customers monitor usage and detect leaks.
Ben Sherman (DPW) walked board members through registration (using account number and name or address), the dashboard’s historic-usage graphs, the ability to toggle unit displays, and alert settings that notify customers if usage exceeds a specified threshold while they are away. Sherman said DPW staff will support residents who encounter registration issues and that he expects ongoing marketing to increase adoption.
Sherman reported early uptake: more than 150 registered users and dozens of new accounts added over the prior weekend. Board members who tested the portal said they were already seeing concrete savings after detecting leaks: one liaison said trial use had saved hundreds of cubic feet per day after finding a continuously running toilet.
The portal’s tools include the ability to drill down from monthly graphs to particular days and to set alerts for continuous usage indicative of leaks. DPW staff noted that the town can also view account data for administration and troubleshoot registration problems (for example, email verification going to junk folders). Sherman said the vendor and town staff are monitoring registration issues and will continue targeted outreach through bills, web notices and social media.
What happens next: DPW will continue marketing the portal, help customers who become stuck during registration, and provide monthly updates on adoption levels and impact.
