Fallon County explores new towers, airport lease finalized with Miles City

Fallon County communications staff reported that the Federal Communications Commission has reopened a window for new tower siting, creating an opportunity to improve radio and broadcast coverage across the county.
Staff said the county intends to submit an application in January that could add towers north and south of Baker, with design and siting work handled by local contractors including Tab Electric and other consultants. Possible steps include use of existing Bechtold’s tower for south coverage and a new tower north of Baker to reach ridge areas. County staff also discussed options to place a small equipment building near an existing tower to house electronics and avoid interior access restrictions.
Separately, the Miles City airport lease has been finalized by the other party and is in the county’s packet for signature; commissioners were asked to sign and return originals for DNRC paperwork and implementation.
