Doug Dieteman, identified in the meeting as Hillcrest’s presenter, told the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District board that he prioritized adult-focused work to build a “culture for learning,” including forming leadership, student success and staff wellness teams so every staff member has a voice.
Dieteman said the school began the year by asking staff three questions — what they’re proud of, excited about and anxious about — and used that feedback to guide priorities. He credited a stronger sense of community and increased staff cohesion for gains on the school’s employee experience survey (Dieteman cited an overall improvement compared with the prior year and highlighted one item with a 1.38-point gain).
The principal described parent engagement strategies such as “popcorn with the principal” evenings and a PTO-led playground fundraising project. He also said Hillcrest is preparing for increased enrollment and is shifting spaces and schedules to create rooms for small-group interventions.
Board members thanked Dieteman and noted the importance of continuity after recent principal turnover. The board did not take formal action on the presentation; it was provided for information and comment.
