Troup County staff recommend replacing aging shop lift and an old pickup; multiple vendor estimates shown

Shop and fleet staff briefed commissioners on Sept. 2 about two capital needs at the county maintenance shop: replacing a 1999 Ford F-250 used for parts runs and replacing an aging 15,000-pound shop lift that staff say no longer safely accommodates heavier modern vehicles.
For vehicle replacement, staff presented multiple quotes and recommended purchasing a new 2025 Toyota Tacoma citing its warranty coverage and perceived longevity. For the lift, staff showed photos of the existing two-post/arm lift (estimated 25–30 years old) and said the arms and extensions are beginning to bow on heavier trucks. Staff presented vendor estimates: A and I sales (~$77,000), Heavy Duty Lift (~$80,009.64) and Mohawk (clarified in discussion to roughly $132,000). New lifts would be rated at 30,000 pounds; the current lift is rated at 15,000.
Staff recommended moving forward with the Mohawk-style drive-on lift to eliminate the current safety hazards and to ensure the shop can service heavier trucks. Funding sources discussed included the capital fund and amounts already included in the approved budget for vehicle replacement.
