Staff to deliver utility policy drafts and says data‑center interest is under review

Staff updated the Albany Utility Board Oct. 9 on a project to prepare utility policies and on preliminary interest from data‑center developers in local electric capacity.
A staff team, including policy and finance personnel, is adapting templates from other utilities and expects to produce a first draft by mid‑November and complete work by Dec. 31. "We hope to try to at least get you a first draft by the end of maybe November, mid November," a staff member said. The goal is to formalize rules and procedures where none existed or where prior policies were outdated.
Separately, staff reported that a data‑center (data‑mining) developer has expressed interest in siting a facility and seeking roughly 2 to 3 megawatts of capacity; staff said they are evaluating options and will bring recommended contract terms to the board when ready. The board was also briefed on temporary service interruptions and building access issues while staff completes facility work.
No board action was required; staff will bring draft policies and any data‑center contract recommendations back for review.
