Court grants conditional permission for Patriot Legacy memorial at Justice Center

The Logan County Fiscal Court on Wednesday voted to allow a group from the Sons of the American Revolution to install a three‑phase “Patriot Legacy” memorial on a vacant lot adjoining the Justice Center, provided there are no conflicts with underground utilities and the court reviews final design and materials.

Randy Parish, who identified himself as a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, told the court the project would begin with a carved granite county‑shaped stone engraved with local Revolutionary War patriots’ names. Parish said the stone, including engraving, delivery and installation, is estimated at $24,800. He described subsequent phases that would add a brick plaza and a semicircular commemorative wall.

“We’ve already gotten an estimated cost in the stone … the cost for the stone getting it set, getting the foundation set is $24,800,” Parish said.

Commissioners pressed the presenters on design and materials. One member objected to using red brick because it would clash with the existing limestone courthouse and suggested choosing materials that match the courthouse’s native stone. Parish and other SAR members said they would consult local masons and present design options for the court’s approval.

Unidentified Speaker (S9) moved to grant the group permission to construct the memorial on the Justice Center property "subject to no utility interference." The motion was seconded and carried on a roll‑call vote.

The court and the SAR presenters agreed the group would return with final drawings and material samples before installation. The court also asked staff to verify there are no subsurface utility conflicts at the proposed site before any work begins.
