Unidentified Speaker 1 opened a public bid for the Sixth Street update near the DoubleTree and Starbucks and said the project will convert sidewalk area opposite Stone Medical Center to support additional parking. Unidentified Speaker 2 stated the single bidder: "Rivertowne Construction LLC of Newburgh," and that "the total amount comes to $103,789.25."
Unidentified Speaker 6 described the scope as limited — removing a run of curb, relocating a couple of trees and light poles, and laying asphalt — calling it "not a big undertaking, but it's gonna make a big impact in that little corner." Staff said the bid comes in below the engineering estimate. The Commission will take the bid under advisement and plans to award the contract at the next meeting (scheduled after the Labor Day holiday), followed by a preconstruction meeting with the low bidder, project staff, the DoubleTree representatives and the city engineer’s office to coordinate scheduling around events at the Ford Center.
No award was made at the meeting; staff set the next meeting date to consider awarding the contract and to schedule preconstruction coordination.
