The agreement also preserves conditions tied to outside donations, including funds from DICK'S Sporting Goods earmarked expressly for the field.
Councilors and Mountaineer representatives discussed funding sources, volunteer and donated labor, and the town’s plans for post-construction maintenance. Staff said some work may be split into specialty bids (masonry, fencing, infield work) to control costs and increase chances of FEMA or other reimbursements. One council member noted ongoing delays from FEMA and the desire not to wait on federal reimbursement to move the project forward.
The council moved to approve the agreement and voted in favor; the motion carried.
The next procedural step: town staff and the Mountaineer Little League will execute the contract and begin coordinating permits and construction scheduling with a view toward the June 30, 2026 deadline.
