Council approves $113,500 engineering agreement for Prairie Creek Road roadway improvements

The council approved a professional services agreement with GFT (formerly Transystems) in the amount of $113,500 to design roadway improvements from the upcoming Kansas Turnpike Authority bridge over Prairie Creek Road north to 21st Street.
Les Mangas, director of community development, said the bridge portion is being led by the KTA, which scheduled the bridge for bid in September or early October; Transystems/GFT was selected in 2020 to be the designer, continued as the designer for the bridge and will now design the city’s roadway portion under the council‑approved agreement. "Those designs could be completed early in 2026, making the project at best case a '26 project, probably more realistic at '27 construction," Mangas said.
Council member (speaker 2) moved approval of the agreement and the motion carried unanimously.
The staff presentation noted the roadway project is in the queue for WAMPO funding consideration for 2026 and that the city would reimburse its share of project costs to the KTA where appropriate. The motion approved professional services only; future design completion and construction timing depend on funding and coordination with the KTA and WAMPO.
