The Kennesaw Historic Preservation Commission approved the meeting minutes from July 18 and accepted the financial report for the period ending July 31, 2025. Staff reported the commission’s balance as $23,398 and said there had been no new HPC training expenditures in the prior 30 days.
Staff also reported four administrative certificates of appropriateness approved in the prior 30 days, including window replacements at 2986 North Main Street (submitted by Window World of North Atlanta), minor siding and trim repairs at 3000 North Main Street, a dumpster enclosure near 1885 (under downtown development authority jurisdiction) and a fencing installation at 2971 North Main Street conditioned to sit behind the front setback.
Commissioners raised the visible condition of a recently demolished antique-store lot on Main Street and asked about standing water and site maintenance. Staff said public works and engineering had worked with the property owner to create a temporary staging area — described as a makeshift detention pond — to prevent runoff into nearby streets and that the owner and city are discussing redevelopment plans. Staff said code enforcement would continue to work with the owner and that the city would follow up before a large downtown event scheduled that day.
Commissioners asked that staff follow up with property-owner maintenance and consider temporary fencing or signage around standing water to make the condition appear intentional and safer.
The meeting adjourned at 09:14.
